A Mountain of Anime News Landed Over the Holidays

The Christmas holidays offer a plethora of pastimes far superior than checking the updates: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to avoid snapping at family members. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy developments surfaced over the holidays, and should you missed a few, here is a summary of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (Come 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising announcement, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to halt further production. Season 3 will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which could be taken as a positive development. Yet, the main art for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now fans are overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will very likely air in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio renowned for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season

Shortly after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has yet to be revealed.
