Aaron Rai Secures the Abu Dhabi Title in Dramatic Play-Off Battle Versus Fellow Englishman Fleetwood

Aaron Rai displayed exceptional composure to claim the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on the final day, defeating Tommy Fleetwood in a tense playoff following a rollercoaster last day of competition.

Rai sank a decisive birdie putt from around eight foot to clinch the victory, repeating his sole prior tournament triumph at the 2020 Scottish Open, which was also a playoff victory over Fleetwood.

Final Round Excitement

Rai started the final round with a one-shot advantage over countryman Tommy Fleetwood and Danish golfer Højgaard. He ended up with a overall score of twenty-under after a topsy-turvy, 67 closing round that included seven birdie putts and two bogeys.

Fleetwood moved a stroke clear with two holes to play after a birdie putt on the 16th, but Rai pulled level again on the seventeenth and then missed a 10-foot birdie attempt to win outright on the last green.
