The Oscar-nominated actress Diane Ladd, a Hollywood veteran has died at the age of 89.
The actress, whose filmography featured Chinatown, died at her home in California’s Ojai. This announcement was announced in a statement by her daughter, Academy Award-winning star Laura Dern, her daughter.
Dern, who appeared with her mom in a number of films including Wild at Heart, described her as “my wonderful hero plus my precious gift as a mother”, writing that she was by her side as she died.
“She was the greatest grandmother, mother, daughter, star, artist as well as empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created,” she wrote. “We were lucky to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”
Ladd’s early career featured supporting roles on television series like The Fugitive whereas the 1970s had her appearing alongside actor Jack Nicholson in the film Chinatown.
During that year, the year 1974, she shared the screen with Ellen Burstyn in Scorsese’s praised film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. The performance landed Ladd an Academy Award nomination in the supporting actress category.
