Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been released from care, officials in Lagos stated on Wednesday night. The athlete was caught in a vehicular crash near Lagos on the 29th of December, a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two of his close associates.
Joshua had been receiving medical attention while recovering from minor injuries, representatives confirmed on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post on X that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to leave and heal privately.
“The boxer and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two friends who passed away as they were being prepared for repatriation,” Omotosho said.
The two men who died were confirmed to be Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. Omotoso added that the champion was filled with sorrow and full of emotions over the passing of his two close friends.”
His release from the hospital arrives after the boxing community had expressed condolences for the star in the following the devastating accident.
