People have gathered around the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led assault on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations advanced in Egypt over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The assault resulted in more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most fatal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as accurate by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our violent opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," the leader remarked on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "realize all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will no longer create a threat to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities delayed official remembrance events until 16 October - after the end of the festive season - but gatherings still occurred around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was organized in the coastal city. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was televised throughout Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was held throughout the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

At the same time, the conflicting parties' representatives met in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of mediated discussions to examine the terms of the proposal.

A prominent delegate familiar with the talks revealed that an late session of mediated discussions began at 7 PM local time.

The representative explained the day's discussions concluded without significant progress, because of differences over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not resume combat after the initial stage of the deal.

He commented that the discussions are "difficult and have not yet deliver any real breakthrough," but noted that mediators are working hard to close the differences between the conflicting groups.

Essential Issues in Negotiations

  • An enduring truce
  • The trade of the hostages still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid provision
  • Future management of the area

Public Sentiment

In the city's public square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling survived the assault on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were killed and many more were abducted by Hamas militants - shared: "No location appears as home now and until each abducted person return no one will be secure."

"Once we see everybody home returned, we can breathe anew. Then we can start to rebuild," she added.

Outside the leader's residence in the capital, people gathered to show their support for the relatives of the abducted. Israel states nearly fifty continue in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be surviving.

Protester a participant explained: "We must do whatever arrangement necessary for the abducted to return. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be safe."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that about seventy percent of Israelis desire the hostilities to end in as payment for the liberation of the hostages.

Palestinian Situation

At the area of the music event, grieving people came together to pay their respects.

From the site, the sound of aerial bombardments and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers said the intense Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were reported in the early hours of that day in the west side Tal al-Hawa, sector and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side area of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the dusk arrives, the anxiety appears with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was killed by an Israeli aerial attack last year, described.

"We are terrified of the air strikes. During nighttime we are lying together, holding each other, especially my little child who puts his face on me all night."

"Constantly we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the fighting will return to us."

Health Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had accepted the corpses of several people by the midday, including a trio who died in an Israeli attack in the southern area.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of Khan Younis reported two more victims had been transported. A person was killed by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get assistance to the south region, medics stated.

The region's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
