Jude Bellingham Needs to Eliminate the Petulance to Secure a Star Role With Tuchel.

For Bellingham to aims to force his way back into the English strongest team, he would be wise to eliminate the nonsense. His reaction when he saw that the substitute board was about to come up following a night of uneven play in the match against Albania was unacceptable.

"I don’t want to make more out of it but I stand by my words 'conduct is crucial' and respect for the squad members who come in," Tuchel said. "Choices are taken and you need to comply as a player."

The midfielder must understand. There was no call for an outburst. Harry Kane had recently scored to make England two goals ahead in a meaningless match, there were six minutes left and Bellingham, following an inconsistent display, received a caution for bringing down Armando Broja. It was not a questionable change. Indeed it might have been reckless for the head coach to keep Bellingham on the pitch considering there was a chance Bellingham would make himself ineligible of the first match of the World Cup by getting a another booking.

Shifting Focus Upon Himself

But Bellingham turned the spotlight on himself. No one could overlook the 22-year-old’s disappointment when he clocked that he would be substituted for Morgan Rogers. His arms went up in exasperation and even though he shook Tuchel’s hand on his way to the sideline it was obvious that the head coach was not impressed.

This represents the hurdle for Bellingham. He praised Marcus Rashford for sending in the ball for Harry Kane to nod home his second of the night, but his other actions was counterproductive. There was no chance complaining was going to change Tuchel’s mind. Tuchel has talked so much about honoring the team structure and the value of showing proper conduct.

Facing Examination

The midfielder, not included in the previous squad, has faced close inspection after returning to the team recently. Essentially his place has been in question and he hasn't helped his case by reacting to coming off the pitch as the national team wrapped up a perfect qualifying campaign by seeing off a feisty challenge from their opponents.

The Coach's Plan

This implies it's unclear on if England perform optimally with Bellingham in the team. The evidence here was not definitive. There was experimentation from the manager in the beginning. He has given the team a clear system in recent months, building with a holding player, a box-to-box player, an attacking midfielder and dedicated wide players, but the approach changed against Albania. The young defender was handed his international debut, Adam Wharton was in the starting lineup internationally and the role of the defender as an auxiliary midfielder gave a similar look to the Manchester club's historic treble-winning side.

Mixed Performance

His performance was inconsistent. He created an opportunity for Eze during the second half but frequently appeared overly eager to shine. He made many rushed, misplaced passes. There was a needless bit of aggro with an Albania midfielder in the early stages. England were ragged for much of the second half. One Albania chance followed he lost the ball cheaply. His caution came after he was dispossessed to Broja and committed a foul on the attacker.

Squad Strength Shows

In the end the squad's strength proved crucial. The coach brought on Foden, who appeared more comfortable to the spot occupied by Bellingham earlier in the match, and Saka. Later Saka whipped in a corner for the captain to score the first goal. It was a reminder that set pieces will be crucial at the World Cup.

Bridge Still Stands

However, Bellingham was the story. The excellence of Rashford's cross for Kane’s header was somewhat overlooked amid the drama of the player change. At the end, the focus was on the midfielder. Tuchel came over behind him and guided the Real Madrid midfielder in the direction of the English fans. The bond between them remains intact. Tuchel hasn't decided to give up on the player just yet. However, whether he is willing to grant him the central position is not guaranteed.
