Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot commented.

“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”

He added, “Through standard exchanges I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Player Response

The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period such as this with results this poor.”

He stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
