The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
