The newest action-packed game that gamers dived into was Far Cry 6, that showcased Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the villain, Antón, and was released on October 6, 2021. In the game universe, it is known for delighting in action and mayhem with similar enthusiasm, all while presenting captivating, politically driven narratives. No wonder then that FX's new order for a Far Cry anthology series attracted two creators whose projects have exemplified all of those qualities.
Inspired by Ubisoft's hit video game property, the self-contained anthology series will be available on Hulu and be produced by FX Productions. The series will also parallel the video games' style by introducing a new backdrop and cast of characters in every instalment.
Rob Mac, mastermind of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as showrunners on the series under their labels, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
“FX has had excellent relationships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a total six series and 32 seasons of television, and we couldn’t be more excited that they are working together for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is innovative, compelling, and extremely entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our collaborators at Ubisoft for trusting us with this popular property.”
Mac will also feature in the show, but as of now, we are unsure of what character that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was not long ago renewed for a second instalment, with FX and Disney finalizing a new comprehensive agreement with the producer.
“Getting to work with Noah Hawley is a goal achieved,” said Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been remarkably supportive, placing faith in us with one of the most famous video-game realms ever created. And along the way, my FX family constantly supports me with their ongoing confidence and assistance.”
“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology-style show. Each game is a take of a idea, the same way every run of Fargo is a version on a theme,” noted Hawley. “To produce a large-scale action show that can change from one instalment to the next, while always exploring the core of people through this intricate and chaotic perspective, is a long-held aspiration. I’m thrilled to partner with Rob and bring our shared irreverent, ambitious approach to the television.”
A schedule for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus in other regions.
