Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues persist in remembering the pair.
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he only now felt able to express about his profound loss.
"Adequate time has passed that I can now articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner left him smitten. "As we began passing more hours together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the film, remarking that he cannot recall "one day without joy".
"This story is about affection, allegiance and giving. Principles that Rob cherished deeply. This is one of the many reasons he was the perfect person to guide it," Elwes wrote.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, stating: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I recall you." He concluded with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
In a different tribute, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved being with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the protagonist.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with everyone, and he comprehended the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese added.
This week, a Los Angeles court official agreed to bar the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order put a embargo on the cases to restrict the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of foul play, with a public database listing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Following the deaths, public figures expressed divergent reactions.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, providing divisive claims that were widely condemned by many commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the detractors last week. Conversing on his show, Rogan described the statements as "shocking" and suggested they revealed a troubling lack of empathy.
Rogan finished by proposing that an adviser could have stepped in when the impulse to weigh in on the death was made.
